I have a lot of respect for Andrej Kaparthy following his appearance on the Dwarkesh podcast. I think he passionately believes in the human value of AI but he's clear eyed and honest about the fact that we've yet to realise it (on account of the persistent memory problem, the lack of contextual awareness, and so on).
Totally. Did you read his book, The Coming Wave? He does such a good jub of articulating the existential threats in the first half, I couldn't take anything he said in the second half seriously.
Yes, read it, and had the same reaction... I also like how he walked away from the AGI concepts and replaced General with Capable, "Artificial Capable Intelligence".

Same here, I've learned a lot from him for a long time. BTW, I just came across this which is hilarious: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/mustafa-suleyman_on-her-latest-podcast-marina-asked-me-the-share-7396218279163248640-wspm (perfect demonstration about what I wrote, haha!)
